PLP is pleased to provide training on applying for Exceptional Case Funding (ECF) for representation in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Tribunal. Representation in the SEND Tribunal is out of scope for legal aid under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO). Since the start of 2020, PLP has been supporting education law legal aid providers to successfully secure SEND ECF, establishing for the first time that ECF is available in this area of law. You can read more about this work here.

The training will cover:

  • Availability of legal aid in the SEND Tribunal
  • ECF criteria and how to meet it
  • How to apply for SEND ECF, with or without a lawyer
  • What SEND ECF can fund
  • How to challenge a refusal of SEND ECD

The training is aimed at barristers, solicitors, NGOs, and individuals interested in applying for SEND ECF.

Chair:

Dr Emma Marshall, Research Fellow, Public Law Project

Speakers:

Matthew Court, Solicitor, Public Law Project

Ollie Persey, Barrister, Public Law Project
