Our key recommendations to the Committee to ensure online courts do not disadvantage those without digital access include:

  • Clarifying the nature of ‘online procedural assistance’ to ensure its implementation is effective
  • Those with experience of digital inclusion to be represented in the Online Procedure Rule Committee (OPRC)
  • A second information technology expert in the OPRC to lessen the risk of a particular view of the capability and role of information technology in the justice system taking precedence.
