Published: 23rd September 2021 As part of her role as PLP’s Justice First Fellow, trainee solicitor Hannah Moxsom introduces the important work she is doing to ensure asylum accommodation in Wales is safe and adequate. Alongside PLP’s focus on access to public law and judicial review in Wales, Hannah Moxsom, PLP’s Justice First Fellow trainee solicitor, is leading a project specifically focusing on asylum support accommodation in Wales in 2021 and 2022. The Home Office has a statutory obligation to provide asylum seekers with adequate accommodation that meets their needs, however is repeatedly found to be failing to do so. The aim of this project is to work closely with Welsh organisations supporting asylum seekers to ensure that individuals in Wales are provided with safe and adequate accommodation. We want to ensure asylum seekers know their rights and have access to judicial review to challenge the suitability of their accommodation if needed. Hannah and PLP’s casework team have assisted several asylum seekers to challenge unsafe and inadequate accommodation using judicial review. If you would like to know more about this project, or if you are impacted by unsafe or unsuitable asylum support accommodation in Wales, please contact Hannah Moxsom.
