How can community organisations and legal experts work together to challenge injustice more effectively?

This free webinar explores ways of working between smaller, frontline and community-based organisations, with those providing legal expertise, working in collaboration to confront injustice and achieve systemic change.

You’ll hear from speakers at the intersections of community action and legal practice, sharing practical insights and case studies on what makes collaboration work, and what can get in the way.

Topics we’ll cover include:

  • The role of second-tier advice organisations in supporting legal strategies
  • Barriers and enablers for less well-resourced groups seeking to use the law
  • Managing organisational capacity issues
  • Trauma-informed working
  • Time, trust and continuity — and why place-based work matters
  • Practical pathways to systemic change
  • The future of collaborative legal approaches

This webinar is for:

  • Community activists, campaigners and user-led organisations exploring partnerships with legal organisations and experts.
  • Charities and NGOs with legal teams looking to work alongside communities experiencing injustice.
  • Lawyers involved in long-term, community-based projects
  • Funders seeking to support organisations to achieve social change together

About the research

This event coincides with the publication of Collaborative legal approaches for systemic change by Professor Jacqueline Kinghan and Professor Lisa Vanhala.

The report examines a five-year programme of funded work led by PLP in partnership with a number of organisations supported by Lankelly Chase. It explores what enables successful cross-sector collaboration and identifies key lessons for those seeking long-term, systemic change.

Speakers:

  • Victoria Pogge von Strandmann and Arianne Griffith, Public Law Project
  • Professor Lisa Vanhala, University College London
  • Professor Jacqueline Kinghan, University of Glasgow
  • Amanda Hailes and Susan Winter, Untold Story: Voices
  • Public Interest Law Centre
