Writing in Free Movement, PLP researcher Tatiana Kazim uncovers three key reasons why the Home Office’s algorithm for investigating sham marriages is so concerning and potentially discriminatory.

  • The lack of transparency in the automated triage system being used by the algorithm
  • The potentially discriminatory nature of the algorithm, based on factors such as nationality
  • Automation bias i.e. over-reliance on automated decision support systems.
