Writing in Free Movement, PLP researcher Tatiana Kazim uncovers three key reasons why the Home Office’s algorithm for investigating sham marriages is so concerning and potentially discriminatory.

If you know anyone either being investigated or at risk of investigation, please get in touch.

In her exploration of the current system, the three areas of concern that Tatiana explores are:

  • The lack of transparency in the automated triage system being used by the algorithm
  • The potentially discriminatory nature of the algorithm, based on factors such as nationality
  • Automation bias i.e. over-reliance on automated decision support systems.
