Press Release: PLP receives ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award at LALY’S.

At the thirteenth Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year awards, held last night at Plaisterer’s Hall in Central London, the Public Law Project (PLP) was awarded the judges’ special ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award.

More usually awarded to individuals, PLP was commended as a whole for its unprecedented work testing the legality of recent reforms to legal aid. Judges cited a number of PLP’s high profile and successful test cases, and its recent research on the telephone gateway. PLP received particular praise for the skill, passion and commitment of its lawyers.

Jo Hickman, PLP’s Director said:

‘Within our current court system legal aid has a vital role to play in ensuring meaningful access to justice, particularly for the most vulnerable. We are honoured to have PLP’s recent work in this area recognised and celebrated by the LALY judges.’
