Published: 17th August 2021 PLP has today submitted written evidence to the Welsh Affairs Committee inquiry into the benefits system in Wales. Read our evidence Drawing on our research into benefit sanctions, we are calling for greater transparency on Universal Credit data to ensure marginalised groups do not experience discrimination, and for more robust processes to protect the most vulnerable within the benefits system. Our recommendations include; that the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) be required to publish data on Universal Credit appeals, hardship payments and ethnicity measures aimed at improving the fairness and affordability of hardship payments measures aimed at improving the fairness and due process of sanctioning decisions such as time-limits on mandatory reconsiderations and a system of warnings.
