The purpose of this summary is to describe the law applicable to EU nationals[1] residing in the UK, or who arrive in the UK, after the end of the Brexit transition period. The position is stated on the basis of the law (including domestic primary and secondary legislation as well as retained EU law) and the stated intentions of the Government as at 22 December 2020. This summary does not attempt to address every scenario and should not be taken to constitute legal advice: it is an attempt to summarise the position on the basis of the legislative provisions that have been adopted or proposed to date, and Government policy statements.
