Today is Human Rights Day.

Public Law Project has joined The British Institute of Human Rights, and 140+ other organisations, to call on the Prime Minister to safeguard our human rights today, during and after Brexit.

You can see the letter here.

The letter reads:

‘We face great constitutional change and uncertainty as the government seeks to navigate taking the UK out of the EU.  Rather than tampering with our hard-won fundamental freedoms, whether in the Human Rights Act or EU Charter, we ask that these legal standards must endure now and post-Brexit.  We ask you to avoid isolation and division, committing instead to stand firm on universal human rights standards as the foundation of a forward-looking UK.’

We are also encouraging people to sign up today to The British Institute of Human Rights’ social media Thunderclap, to celebrate the importance of human rights for everyone in the UK.
